View South of the Border......
Handheld HDR shot from a restaurant parking lot......
For a successful HDR shot, you need patience, persistence, a good camera and a sturdy tripod. Unfortunately for me, I had none of these with me tonight! As I was out and about running errands tonight, I made a quick stop off at one of my favorite locations.....Taco Bell! As the leaves began to fall from the trees a few months back, they gradually uncovered a beautiful view of the West end of Belleville Lake, and I have been wanting to make a picture of the scene for a while now......
As I drove up Rawsonville Road, on my way to pick up some groceries, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunset that was quickly dropping through the western sky. It was painting the sky with very rich tones of blue, orange and magenta, but it was falling quickly, and I knew I would soon lose my light!
I quickly pulled in to the parking lot, and reached for my messenger bag. I didn't have my camera bag or tripod with me, just my old trusty Canon Rebel Xsi, a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and a Sigma 10-22mm f/3.5. I grabbed the Sigma, quickly set up the camera, and hoped that I would find a tree to lean against to steady my shot, since I didn't have a tripod with me......
No such luck. At least it was nice and warm (yeah right, about 20 degrees) so I wouldn't have too much camera shake! I quickly snapped off about 15 frames (5 shots, bracketed with 3 exposures each) and headed back to the car.....in a little under 10 minutes, I could barely feel my fingers, and the light was almost gone!
I like this location....I will definitely have to return when the weather is a bit more hospitable, and I have my tripod with me.
