Mist over the Mighty Huron

Huron River, Dexter, Michigan
Today I was headed to Dexter, to go grab some supplies from George at Huron Camera.  First off, let me just say that, if you're in the Ann Arbor area and into Photography, you should definitely know George and the staff at Huron Camera.  If you've never been there.....what's wrong with you??

So anyway, I was headed to Dexter to see George, and grab some sensor cleaning supplies, and get some pricing on tripods.  The other day I had mentioned to a customer that I would be in the area, and he decided to give me a "Short Cut" that was sure to get me there faster!  As usually happens......I got lost!  Let me just say that, if you have to pick a place to get lost, Dexter isn't a bad place to be!  It's a quaint little town, surrounded by farms, fields and woods, along with the Huron River weaving in and out as you drive through.  Although I was most definitely lost, I didn't care, I was enjoying the ride......

After I was quite sure that I had driven way out of my way, I finally pulled over, and pulled up the GPS app on my phone.  Sure enough, I was about 5 miles passed where I was supposed to be, and on the other side of the river.  Although I was enjoying the drive, I let the GPS lead me the rest of the way.

The sky was overcast, and a light rain was falling.  Over the river, which was off to my left running parallel to the road I was on (the aptly named Huron River Drive, go figure) was a very dense fog (or maybe swamp gas....or the mist from that Steven King movie).  As I made my turn and took the bridge over the river, and towards downtown Dexter, I saw my shot!

I of course parked illegally, and about a quarter mile from the bridge, which was the only safe place I could find.  I'm also pretty sure I shouldn't have been on the bridge, with a tripod and camera, so I quickly ran down the street to my spot, set up the tripod and framed the shot.  After a few quick exposures, I folded up the tripod legs, and headed back to the truck.

The fog in the distance made for a very dramatic scene.... and I only got a little wet capturing it!
