The Towering Cathedral

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wyandotte, MI
If there's one thing the city of Wyandotte is know for......it's retirees!  Lots and lots of them, they're everywhere!  If there's two things the city of Wyandotte is known for, it's of course retirees, then second, would be small corner stores, bakeries, bars etc. spread throughout it's neighborhoods.  Back in the day, you didn't have to go downtown to do your shopping, you could just walk a couple of blocks to Art's General Store, the local Pharmacy or the Butcher Shop.  While many of these businesses have long since closed, with their buildings being converted to residential housing, many are still around and doing well, as much of their clientele has continued to shop with them for a few generations!

If there's three things that the city of Wyandotte is known for......first off....retirees, they're practically everywhere.  Second......tiny corner stores, and third would have to be the Churches.  It's hard to go more than two blocks in any direction in Wyandotte, without hitting a century's old cathedral.

The rest of the story, and a bonus photo, after the jump....

Almost anywhere in Wyandotte, right on the hour, you can hear the bells of Mt. Carmel.  The towering cathedral on 10th St. and Superior Blvd. is the oldest Polish Parish in the city.  Dedicated in 1899, and completed in 1915, the church utilized the Polish Cathedral style of architecture.

Sitting at home sick this afternoon, and not having been able to make it to my own Church this morning, this seemed like a perfect shot to share on a Sunday afternoon.  This photo was taken last Thursday while I was out and about Downriver.

Ypsilanti Water Tower, Version 2
As an added bonus, a reworked version of the photo of the Ypsi Water Tower from January 5th.  The exploding moon never really sat right with me, so I pulled it from another exposure and fixed the shot.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography is an art, and is very much subjective, and has a lot to do with the artist's mood when they are rendering the image.  When I am reworking an image, I don't like to look at the original edited work.  I don't want to be swayed in one direction or another as I work.....instead I like to rework the image as if I had never touched it before, rendering it based on how I felt like working it that day, and then comparing it to earlier images to see how they compare, and how they differ.  This image pulled a lot more reds from the brick, but looks to me to be more realistic than the first.  Others may disagree.....art is subjective!
